Iman @ The Apollo – The PhotoBlog

We had just parked the car and I made my way to the front of the Apollo Theater… “Excuse me brother but if you’re on the list you have to go to the back”

I look over to my good friend Fernando and say “Nando, I think tonight I am going to need a lot of patience, but I am telling myself this now so I don’t get angry and just take it in stride” Truer words never spoke…

Let me just state this right now for all to hear… I HATE LIVE SHOW PHOTOGRAPHY… There I said it, I hate taking them, I hate looking at them, I hate how they always look the same, I hate how it is just images of peoples mouths wide open. BUT I still take them, I don’t know why…

This night would be no different, but MUCH more difficult then any other night that I have attempted to do so… The Apollo security was CRAZY… Crazier then anything I’ve ever seen when it comes to photos… No video AT ALL, ANYWHERE… No flash (this I understand) … No shooting from anywhere but a designated area BEHIND THE AUDIENCE!!!… No shooting on stage… No shooting from backstage even if you have backstage access…

When have rules ever stopped me? Sometimes… but I still try… this is the result…

Thank you Iman for throwing an amazing event…

Anisa + Canon G11

I got the Canon G11 to be able to have a good, small camera with manual controls that I can carry everywhere…

So far… I likes…

HipHopHomies Part III – The Reminders

I have been in contact online with the Reminders for a few years now, ohh the wonderful internet and how it connects us.

But this event was the first time I was actually blessed enough to see them rock on stage LIVE… at the Apollo no less.

With security giving me fits about shooting I grabbed Big Samir and Aja Black and asked them to follow me outside for a quick minute…

The result is part 3 of my hip hop homies series…

Thank you for taking the time out to bless me with this…

Fernando is amazing…

I only run with the BEST… and Fernando is THE BEST…

5 minutes of me sitting on a chair and this is the result on a slab of metal…

no more words needed…

Yassin Dante Terrell Smith Bey (aka Mos Def) LIVE @ The Apollo

The world famous Apollo Theater had some of the tightest security I have ever seen for a live show…

Come on now… it’s really not that serious… its 2010!!!

My key chain has a video camera on it…

I had back stage access but you cant see the stage from there… so I risked it by shooting this from the side, behind a pillar… I got this before getting caught…

Mos Def – “Priority”

Enjoy (I know you will, at least if your white… they seem to like mos def…)

BIG UP to Iman for throwing an amazing event… more stolen photos coming soon…

Rest In Peace – Killa Sha

Rest in peace to Killa Sha who passed away yesterday from complications due to his diabetes treatment.

3 hours of shooting the guys + Getting random people to sing the song + a Canon hand held hdv camera =

More details about the shoot later… if you want it…

BIG THINGS COMING…

HipHopHomies PART II – Rebel Diaz

Part II of my hip hop homies series… where I get artists I know and respect to kick a little something for me on the spot… where ever that spot might be…

This time we have Rebel Diaz right after a photoshoot we did together…

Enjoy…

How to be a great client

As a client, your job isn’t to be innovative. Your job is to foster innovation. Big difference.

Fostering innovation is a discipline, a profession in fact. It involves making difficult choices and causing important things to get shipped out the door. Here are a few thoughts to get you started.

• Before engaging with the innovator, foster discipline among yourself and your team. Be honest about what success looks like and what your resources actually are.

• If you can’t write down clear ground rules about which rules are firm and which can be broken on the path to a creative solution, how can you expect the innovator to figure it out?

• Simplify the problem relentlessly, and be prepared to accept an elegant solution that satisfies the simplest problem you can describe.
